the whole pitch is you type nos95.com and then you are in a desktop. there is no setup.exe. there is no iso. there is a black screen for three seconds that pretends to be 1995 and then teal. if you were looking for a windows 95 emulator you already left the page, which is fine, this is not that and i am tired of putting it in the first sentence, so here it is in the third one instead. guest mode is the default. you can click stuff. that is the product.
the boot splash is black on purpose. i took the teal glow off it because it looked like a gaming mouse ad. now its a grey bevel around the logo and a navy progress bar that fills in chunks like the old windows setup, and a line of courier that says it is loading himem.sys even though it is not. people tap the screen. the sound starts if the browser lets it.
after that you get icons and a start button. on a phone it is a little cramped because windows 95 was not a phone, i did not invent that constraint. double-click on desktop, or tap twice, or use the start menu like a person from the past. if you sign in, files and trophies can follow you. if you dont, it still works, it just lives in this browser until you clear it, which is how the 90s felt too.
f1 opens help. the blog is in there too, which is how you got this sentence if you are reading it on the desktop. if you are reading it on the web, hello, the url is the whole trick. bookmark it or dont. it will still be teal tomorrow.
