the teal is doing more work than the code, honestly

i keep seeing people paste nos95.com into some emulator roundup like its a 1995 iso you drop in a vm, and then they get mad when explorer.exe isnt sitting there waiting. which. look. i did not ship microsoft windows. i sat in a chair and drew grey rectangles until they looked like they had a light source coming from the top left, because thats how windows 95 decided light works, and if you get that angle wrong the whole desktop feels like a scam even if the start menu opens fine.
the teal is #008080. i did not mix it. its just sitting in every screenshot your uncle emailed in 1998 with a chain letter attached. once you put real icons on it and a start button that actually opens, your brain does the rest, which is convenient because i did not want to write a kernel. overlapping windows took longer than they should have because z-index is a personality disorder and every app thinks it is the important one.
anyway guest mode is the whole product for most people. you boot it, you drag a window, you lose at minesweeper, you leave. sign in if you want notepad to follow you to another browser like a lost dog. i dont know what else to tell you. the taskbar is 28 pixels of grey that has to look busy even when nothing is open which is a design problem from 1995 that i volunteered to re-litigate.
the start menu is the other half of the costume. programs, settings, shut down that does not shut down your laptop. i spent a stupid amount of time on the banner stripe on the left. it says NOS 95 like a product that shipped in a box. it did not ship in a box. you open a tab.
